What is the best image size for Instagram?
Instagram displays photos at a maximum width of 1080 pixels. Uploading images larger than 1080px forces Instagram to apply aggressive server compression, which often causes blurriness, banding, and loss of detail. By resizing your images before uploading, you maintain total control over the final quality.
Ideal Dimensions (2026 Standards)
- Square Posts: 1080 x 1080 pixels (1:1 ratio)
- Portrait Posts: 1080 x 1350 pixels (4:5 ratio) — Recommended for maximum screen space
- Stories & Reels: 1080 x 1920 pixels (9:16 ratio)
- Landscape Posts: 1080 x 566 pixels (1.91:1 ratio)
